You can find as much as 40 taller than 1000 meter fells in this region, including the Norwegian and Swedish sides. In this region you can still find genuine Lappish culture and reindeer herding. Here you will enjoy the freshest air in the whole of Europe. There are plenty of activities you can enjoy in this arcticly bare landscape. Cross-country skiing, trekking, snowmobiling. Even gliding, flying and sleigh riding belong a list of activities you can get yourself into in this beautiful setting above the arctic circle. Kilpisjärvi is also a good destination along the road to the northernmost continental location in Europe, Norwegian towns of Hammerfest, Nordkap, Tromsø and Skibotn. Skibotn and the Arctic Ocean is just 40 kms away from Kilpisjärvi. On the shore of Kilpisjärvi you will see the mighty Saana - 1029 meters tall - and Malla (906 m). Behind the lake you can see Paras (1419 m) in Norway and Pältsa (1444 m) in Sweden. The highest peak in Finland is Halti (1328 m). Halti waits for you to conquer it's hillsides a bit further from Kilpisjärvi. So please feel welcomed to Kilpisjärvi. It is a true arctic Laplandish experience - far exceeding the beaten path! Stay with us and enjoy yourself! Kilpisjärven Lomakeskus provides a setting that is hard to find elsewhere in this region. Modern log cabins are located between the adjacent Kilpisjärvi lake and the impressive mount Saana. A spring runs thru the area of the log cabin village. So it is a perfect spot for your stay. 5 NEW CABINS New eight person cabins are situated close to the Kilpisjärvi-lake shore. Each cabin has four separate bedrooms. One of the most wonderful features with these new well-equipped cabins are the large terraces downstairs and especially upstairs. Unobstructed views towards Saana fell and Kilpisjärvi lake are among the best in Kilpisjärvi. You will not be disappointed with the quality of materials either or other appointments. The new cabins have many advantages over the Traditional cabins. For instance upstairs is full-height and there are two separate bedrooms at both ends of the upper storey. The other of these bedrooms has an access to the upper terrace. DOWNSTAIRS Downstairs you will find two bedrooms as well, a roomy living-room with dining, a bathroom and sauna. These all-new cabins are nicely furnished with attention to detail. Downstairs the heated floors have tile surface. Upstairs floor material is parquet. Each cabin has a slightly differing color-sceme, but natural materials do set the tone. New cabins are situated further away from the road, which makes this site even more peaceful. 7 TRADITIONAL LOG CABINS The traditional cabins have a scent of uniqueness to them. With extra beds the 7 log cabins have a total capacity of 49 beds. The cabins are built and equipped to a high standard. Each cabin has two bedrooms - both for two persons. Living-room has a high ceiling and a fireplace out of gray soap stone to add to your mood. There is also a loft upstairs for 2-3 people. TV, video, radio and phone are among the amenities of the cabins. Kitchen is equipped with a microwave, dish washer and service set. You will find also a sauna, a separate toilet and washing machine in these cabins. Outside you will get to park your car under a covered carport with electric plug for heating. The terrace is facing towards Saana fell. APARTMENT ACCOMMODATION We have also two apartment buildings each with four apartments. All of these apartments have room for five people. The apartments have thus 40 beds all in all. All of the apartments are fully equipped and furnished with everything you need. The kitchen is complete with a service set and appliances. There is also a sauna and a drying closet for clothing in each apartment. Downstairs hallway is stocked with plenty of storage space. The spacious bathroom, toilet and sauna can be found along the hallway. The living-room with kitchen is at the end of the hallway. Most of the living-rooms in these apartments do have a high ceiling all the way to the upper storey. On the loft upstairs there is sleeping for three. LUONGASLOMA CABINS We have a special fisher-friendly location 135 km south from Kilpisjärvi to let. The 3 Luongasloma cabins are located 10 meters from the Muonio river. The cabins are about the same size as cabins in Kilpisjärvi. Ample fishing opportunities is among the joys of this getaway place. TRAILER PARK CAMPING TRAILER AREA The mighty Saana fell lies behind the trailer park. There are 134 electrified places for trailers. Most of them are in long-time lease. But an accidental traveler will always get a place in our trailer park. SERVICE BUILDING Caravan travelers will be serviced by the modern service building. There you will find kitchen, sauna, toilets, washing machines and drying closets. LAPPISH TEPEES Two Lappish wooden tepees are for public use. The other tepee made of old log is bigger and the other one is meant for smaller groups. Both have floor heating and grilling canopy. Bigger tepee, Ilmari, can fit in a busload of people. The smaller is not tiny either. Both of them will provide you with a very nice place for a gathering. In the summer you can do trekking and familiarize yourself with the Laplandish nature. Fishing is one nice way to relax yourself and try your luck. After the lake looses it's ice-cover in may, many fishers do get trout-lucky. The Lappish brown trout is The fish to go after. AVIATION Hang-gliders and parachute-gliders have found Kilpisjärvi-region to fit their hobby well. The air streams here can keep gliders airborne at best for hours. IN THE SUMMER During the early summer you can still do cross-country skiing, perhaps in your swimsuit. There will be some snow on the fells as late as June. When people go boating or tanning themselves on lakes or the sea in some more southern locations, here at Kilpisjärvi we can head our snowmobiles to the great fells around the lake. Skiers are delighted to ski in the mild early summer climate and rest their eyes in the wakening nature that they pass by. When you ski on the spring snow in Lapland you will be overwhelmed with an indescribable feeling. You have to sense it yourself. It's a feeling of total relaxation.
